5.Pull the free yarn back and form a loop atop the shank on the far side, then another next to it on your side. These loops will be the wing case. Pull the rest of the free yarn back out of the way.

6.Tie the hackle feather in by its stem on your side of the hook, ahead of the yarn. Advance the thread to at least one eye-length back of the eye. Leave plenty of room there because there will be a lot to tie off.

7.Holding the feather out of the way, wrap the rest of the free yarn forward. Make sure to put wraps in front of the loops and behind the hackle so the body has no gaps. When you reach the thread, tie off and snip the excess.
